Trash Services

Weekly sanitation pickup is provided by Schaben Sanitation/Waste Connections and billed by the Village with your monthly water and sewer services.  If you have any concerns with your trash collection, you may contact the Village Office or Schaben Sanitation at (308) 534-7080.

Trash pickup is early on Tuesday mornings so we recommend putting your trash out Monday night.

Items not allowed in residential or commercial trash receptacles:

  • No yard waste or medical waste

  • No dead animals

  • No hot ashes

  • No appliances

  • No concrete or shingles

  • No hazardous materials

  • No chemicals

  • No batteries

  • No paint or paint thinner

  • No oil

  • All oil filters must be crushed

  • No lumber

Compost Site

The compost site is located ¼ mile southeast of the roundabout. It is open 24/7 with the exception of clean up days. Cannot accept painted or treated wood. No nails please. Place things where signed. Illegal dumping will be prosecuted.

The following items are accepted at the recycling center:

Corrugated Cardboard & Paper Sacks:
BREAK DOWN BOXES to maximize baler space
Pressboard/Paperboard Cardboard:
Boxes such as Kleenex, crackers and cookies, 6, 12, & 24 packs, cereal, cardboard tubes, etc.
REMOVE Styrofoam, plastic wrap, packing material
AVOID boxes with residue and wax layers: 2 qt milk cartons, juice boxes, etc.
Plastics:
The type or # of plastic is generally located at the bottom of the container inside of a triangle. Containers
must be RINSED OR WIPED OUT, especially milk jugs, peanut butter, containers holding toxic materials such as motor oil, transmission fluid, herbicides & pesticides. Oil containers must be completely DRAINED. Chemical containers must be TRIPLE RINSED.
PET (#1) - water bottles, juice, salad dressing, ketchup, mayo, etc.
Containers for fruits like strawberries, grapes, deli/poultry packaging, etc. are NOT PREFFERED
HDPE (#2) - laundry detergent, shampoo, body wash, frozen juice, kitty litter jugs
Natural (#2) - milk jugs
Most other plastics can be recycled in the orange Hefty Energy bags. Must be placed inside the bag.
Aluminum Cans:
Soda, beer, energy drinks
Steel/Tin Cans:
Soup, vegetables, pie filling, pie tins, cat food, aluminum foil. Please REMOVE wrappers off of cans and RINSE OUT.
Paper:
White ledger, printer paper, envelopes, manila folders, index cards, shredded paper, junk mail etc.
Magazines:
Glossy flyers and inserts, brochures, catalogs, and magazines (REMOVE plastic and straps from bundles)
Newsprint:
Newspapers and phone book pages- REMOVE cover and place in carboard receptacles
Books - Remove outside cover and recycle the pages. Notebooks must have spiral binding REMOVED.
Book covers (hard & soft) may be placed in cardboard receptacles.
Glass:
Safely place glass into the marked container


WE DO NOT ACCEPT:
Vinyl siding, Appliances, Electronics, Kitchen Waste, Pots & Pans, Diapers, Plastic Totes & Laundry
Baskets, Hazardous Waste, Dirty Mineral Tubs.
